Best Local Food Flair in Beantown Restaurants

While visiting Boston make time to try the local flavors that make Boston unique, as well as the food of New England, which has a flavor all of its own.

While staying in Boston one will want to find time amidst staying in luxury accommodations, taking tours of the city and seeing its attractions to see try the following restaurants and hot spots to get a feel of the local flavor Boston has to offer.

Union Oyster House

The Union Oyster House can boast being the oldest continuality operating restaurant in America. Established in 1826 and located on the Freedom Trail, the Union Oyster house has a long history and includes a special booth John F. Kennedy Jr, used to frequent on Sunday afternoons. The restaurant has some of the freshest local seafood one can find.

The portions are hearty and the prices are reasonable. One should not miss the lobster in any form, especially the lobster bake, lobster roll and lobster ravioli. Also, don’t forget to order the Boston baked beans, which have been a house specialty for generations.

No trip to the Union Oyster House can be considered complete without an order from the oyster bar. A person at the bar shucks a variety of fresh Cape Cod cherrystones and littlenecks or other native oysters. All are best served with a glass of Samuel Adams Ale brewed especially for the restaurant.

Fairmont Copley Plaza – Oak Room

There are many Boston locals who stop by the Fairmont Copley Plaza even though they may not have a room. That is because of the well known Oak Room restaurant that offers award-winning cuisine set in a luxurious setting with a 30-foot high ceiling complete with intricate white plasterwork and twin Waterford crystal chandeliers. It’s an excellent choice for a special evening out.

The Oak Room offers excellent steakhouse fare, including a 20-inch bone-in rib eye, but it is the local seafood and flavors that are so unique. Dishes such as Jonah crab cakes, lobster bisque, freshly steamed clam chowder, clams casino, and oysters Rockefeller are not to be missed.

If one happens to be staying at the Fairmont or is looking for a morning meal, the Oak Room also offers breakfast featuring other local flavors such as the buttermilk pancakes with fresh Maine blueberries.

Parker's Restaurant at Omni Parker House

The Omni Parker House has, for over 150 years, been famous for many things including a being a favorite hang-out for famous writers, politicians, baseball players and actors. Two tasty items are well known both in terms of taste and history. Parker's Restaurant is famous for the creation of the Boston cream pie and soft crust-less Parker house rolls. No trip to Boston would be complete without a taste of the two.

Fenway Park

Those lucky enough to get tickets to a Red Sox game will want to enjoy the game while eating a famous Fenway Frank. The classic hot dogs are boiled then grilled and served on the New England-style bun that looks like a thick slice of French bread. The classic is served with mustard and relish. Everyone enjoys them, which is why over a million are served each season.
