Patriot Place Massachusetts - Not Just FootballThe New England Patriots Football Stadium and Lifestyle Complex
The vision of the Kraft family has transformed a run-down football stadium at Foxboro, MA into a state of the art sports and lifestyle center. And it doesn't stop there.
In 1994, Robert Kraft spent $172 million to purchase the New England Patriots football team. The team was, to say the least, mediocre. But today, Kraft, the 65-year-old chairman and chief executive of The Kraft Group has a team that has won three superbowl titles under his ownership. In 2008, Forbes magazine estimated the team's worth at $1.3 billion. In the 1990s, Kraft began the construction of a new, privately funded, football stadium to replace the dilapidated stadium that was home to the team in Foxboro, Massachusetts. The new Gillette stadium opened in 2002. But Kraft's vision did not end there. He developed the idea of a lifestyle center around the stadium, with retail stores, a cinema, restaurants, a medical center, and a hotel. And today, his vision is a reality. Patriot Place ShoppingOne of the first stores to open in the Patriot Place complex was Bass Pro Shops, an outdoor activities retailer with headquarters in Springfield, Missouri.
